Stonemead Rain Corrected for Wind Effects
Using Koshmieder's 1934 Graph
The best rain record is only an index of the actual rainfall. Wind is the main cause of rain gage catch error. There is an induced up-draft on the windward edge of the gage, which deflects rain out of the gage when wind is blowing.
Note: Corrected rain was calculated according to Koshmieder's correction graph as reported in his 1934 paper "Methods and results of definite rain measurements. III Danzig Report" as reported in Monthly Weather Review, U S Weather Bureau, 62:5-7, January 1934.
Wind speed corrected using MPH upper/MPH lower = (32/2.5)^(1/7)
The suggested under catch due to wind at Stonemead in 13 %.
